Tacky Lights and Richmond Real Estate
It’s that time of the year! Santa Claus’ outside Walmart ringing the bell, tree’s being sold about every 1/2 mile on Broad Street, even stop lights flash a bright red and green. Wasn’t that in a song? Seriously though the holidays are upon us and are a time for family, celebration, good cheer and yes, decorating.
The decorating part can be a challenge if you are trying to sell your home. While holiday decorating is fun and festive, too much can leave buyers unable to picture themselves at home in your house. Not really the feedback you want to hear from prospective buyers. Also not everyone has the same beliefs and customs that you do. Remember when you are trying to sell a home you want to appeal to the masses, including homebuyers that do not observe Christmas.
If you have your home on the market this time of year, decorate of course, but keep it low key. Here are some suggestions for the holidays when your home is for sale:
- Don’t fill the front yard with giant inflatable snowmen, Rudolph and his merry crew, a 10 foot Santa or a full size manger. Remember curb appeal still matters over the holidays! You don’t want to be on the famous Richmond Tacky Light Tour when your home is for sale!
- Don’t buy a 10 foot tree, go smaller with white lights and leave the Elvis ornament from Graceland in the box!
- Remove a piece of furniture to create space for your tree so the room doesn’t feel cramped.
- Just like outside of your house, less is better. Use real green garland (it smells great). Use splashes of traditional reds as red is an emotionally appealing color.
- Bake some cookies for potential buyers to make them feel welcome. They smell good too! Leave a small card telling them to enjoy.
- Keep your presents around the tree to a minumum. Store the bulk of them stacked in a closet neatly or under the bed!
- Turn on some very low background music before leaving for a showing. Light jazz or classical is ideal. Holiday music is okay, but keep it instrumental.
Follow these simple suggestions and you just might get a great present for the holidays; an attractive offer on your home! Nobody helps people buy and sell homes like Skye Bruce Properties! For great real estate advice anytime of the year, contact Skye Bruce Properties! Ho Ho Ho!!!
