In 1730 Robert Rocketts began a ferry service transporting goods on the site and it was once considered the busiest inland port in America. During the Civil War, Rocketts Landing’s riverfront location became vital area in defending Richmond from the Union Navy and Abraham Lincoln landed here to view the burning Confederate Capitol. In the early 1900′s Rocketts Landing transitioned into an industrial district until it was abandoned in the 1970s.
Today, Rocketts Landing has begun a new era of activity and excitement with the development of a master planned community. The $500 million village plan calls for up to 2,000 residences, 500,000 SF of office space, 200,000 SF of retail and entertainment space, a hotel, a private marina, and a mile-long riverfront park.
